About Karen Skehel

Karen Skehel is a holistic business coach, coaching supervisor and founder of Walk on Waves coaching who brings over 25 years of business and personal development experience to her coaching and supervision clients. Since 2001, when she first started coaching, she has moved through various incarnations as a coach in order to meet the wide-ranging needs of her clients. Today she splits her time between coaching entrepreneurs, other business leaders and their teams on both their business and personal needs; and providing transformational supervision to both executive coaches and non-executive coaches who are serious and committed to their own personal and professional development.

Her background spans advertising sales and marketing; commercial radio and sales promotion; and counselling and group facilitation. She founded and ran her own successful marketing agency and has led personal development workshops in relationships, coaching and in "emotional intelligence. She has coached in front of 1.5 million people on ITV's most popular day time programme, and has also appeared on ITV2. Her tips for success in business have been broadcast on radio to 25 markets in the US. Over four years, she wrote for Natural Health Magazine as The Soul Doctor and The Life Coach contributing a page addressing readers' life challenges every month. She has also pioneered the use of self-healing coaching to help people reduce or overcome the symptoms of long-standing or so-called incurable conditions. She has also developed a new alternative therapy called “Chikara”, and a feel-good workshop programme www.theinnerspa.co.uk to replenish body, mind and spirit.

Karen holds a Management Sciences degree (BSc Hons) and a Diploma in Group Facilitation (Emotional Intelligence). She is a certified counsellor (CCST) and a certified coach (Results Coaching Systems, Australia). The “Results” training forms part of the University of Portsmouth’s MSC in Coaching and Development.

She has also received a “Mastery in Coaching” from Newfield Network, USA.. In 2008/9, she added to her skills by undertaking a Diploma in Supervision, graduating in 2009.. This course counts as credits towards the Masters in Coaching Supervision at Kingston University. All these trainings are accredited by the ICF.

Her greatest passion in working with coaches is in the area of supervision where change is often transformational and multi-dimensional.

In 2010, she took her passion for coaching supervision a stage further by founding ACS www.associationofcoachingsupervisors.com. ACS is a trade association whose mission is to raise the profile and value of coaching supervision amongst coaches and buyers of coaching.

Here is what Karen says to explain her passion for supervision;

“I have always enjoyed working in a multi-dimensional way, looking at what’s going on from multiple perspectives, and supervision gives me the opportunity to do this  (whether I am the supervisee or the supervisor).

The design of the process enables the supervisees to address their own personal development as they reflect on the work they are doing with clients, so there are  many ways for me to add value through the process.

I enjoy the collegiate relationships with supervisees as  we are both coaches bringing our joint expertise, and experience to the table.

The process challenges me to function at my best: it’s an unusual combination of fun and transformation.
